Sturgeon Point Lighthouse:

Open June through August. Make a point to visit the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse which is a few miles north of the harbor. Take advantage of the harbor's courtesy van.

Bailey School: One of the few remaining one-room schoolhouses still standing in Michigan. It is a reminder of simpler times. Built of Norway Pine in 1907, the school is still furnished with items used during that time; a recitation bench, teacher and students' desks, drinking pail and dipper and a wood stove for heat. The building still has its school bell atop the roof.

Bailey School served the community until the 1940-41 school year. During its last year, the school had thirteen students. The teacher earned $125.00 per month. When the school was closed the students were transported to Oscoda schools.

In 1973 the schoolhouse was partially restored at its location in Mikado Township. In 1998 it was disassembled and moved to Sturgeon Point where it was rebuilt and restored to near original condition.

The annual Strawberry Social is held at the school on the last Sunday of each June.

Camping:

The Harrisville State Park is just a few blocks-walk from the harbor and a nice stroll for those who enjoy exercise and fresh air.

Campers who visit this park regularly claim it as the nicest State Park in Michigan.

Swimming:

Endless miles of beach grace the Lake Huron shore north and south of the harbor.

Please be mindful that while the shoreline is open for walking, all should recognize that swimming, loitering and picnicking in front of private homes and/or on property should be avoided.
